Packed lunch waste22 April 2025 (by Ashlea Stevenson (ashlea)) |
From 23/4/25 your child's packed lunch waste will be returned back to you.
This is for two reasons:
1) Parents have indicated they would like to see how much food their child has eaten or not eaten
2) There is new waste legislation which has come into force which means all waste must be recycled into the following categories:
- Paper and card
- Glass
- Metal
- Plastics
- Food waste
- Mandatory Food Waste Collection: Food waste will now be collected separately from general waste, ensuring it can be composted or processed into bioenergy.
As you can imagine, it would be unsustainable for school staff to sift through all the children's packed lunch boxes and wash dry and recycle their recyclable pots, containers, plastics, card, crisp packets etc. As a business (school) if we do not do this and we put one of the above mentioned in the non-recyclable bins we may be fined.
We trust you understand our concerns regarding the fine and, as ever, thank you for your continued support.
