Dear Parents/Carers,
We will be introducing Spelling Home Learning Tasks for children in Year 2 - Year 6 from Friday 8th November 2024.
Pupils have two spelling lessons in school a week. Our spelling curriculum builds on from the pupil's phonics knowledge from their earlier spelling and reading teaching. Before moving them onto understanding the depth of the word, the morphology of the word, patterns they can see and sentence level dictations.
To embed the pupils' knowledge further, we will be sending home a weekly spelling task. The task will be based on the learning the children completed in their spelling lesson that week. The activities will range each week, varying from reasoning tasks, dictionary skills, speed spell activities and more.
Due to these tasks needing to be completed on the activity sheet, the children will be given their spelling activity as a hard copy, every Friday. The children will have a week to complete the activity and return, completed to the class teacher by the following Friday. Class teachers will also be uploading a PDF copy of the spelling sheet on Google Classroom weekly, in case any activity sheets get misplaced.
